About Toby

October 26, 2006 was the happiest day of my life.  On that day, the SFSPCA transported me from Bakersfield to San Francisco to meet my new family.   Mom Kristine had found me on the Kern County shelter website and knew immediately I was the right dog.  After looking at my forlorn picture for two weeks, she finally placed the call and arranged for me to come up to San Francisco via the SFSPCA.  (I was found wandering the Mojave Hwy and spent a couple of crappy weeks at the shelter.)  Mom Kristine, Dad Alfred, and Aunt Barb came to pick me up.  I was 6 months old, 35 lbs, and covered in dandruff.  The shelter called me Otis, but I was renamed Toby.  It has a much nicer ring to it!  I was quite scared getting into the car, but soon fell asleep on Aunt Barb’s lap.  Out first stop was Petco, where they planned to give me a shampoo.  The place was big, bright and intimidating.  The groomers advised my parents that washing me probably wasn’t the best thing for now.  I should go home and get adjusted to my new surroundings.  So we left.

OH BOY do I have a nice big backyard in Inner Richmond.  Sure the walkway is cracking, plants overgrown, and weeds galore.  But there is plenty of romping room and SPACE!

It wasn’t hard getting used to my new home.  I had food and water, but no bed.  That’s ok, because the rug is a lot better than the cement floor of the shelter.

Unfortunately, I had pneumonia when I arrived.  Mom and Dad took me to Arguello Pet Hospital where I met Dr. Kang.  She’s the best!  My cough and phlegm was so bad she was afraid I might have distemper.    But antibiotics cleared it up in 2 weeks.

Here’s more pics of my first day in my new home.
